Gift of Life is one of the nation’s public bone marrow registries helping children and adults find donors for bone marrow transplants.
About

#NationalDNADay

Happy National DNA Day! DYK the best chance of finding a marrow match is between two people with a shared ethnicity? There is an urgent need to diversify the registry, so that all patients can find a donor when one is needed. Currently, many ethnic groups are underrepresented, making it difficult to find matches. We encourage you to join the registry, as you could have the amazing opportunity to save someone's life. giftoflife.org/register #NationalDNADay

"When I found out I was a match I felt motivated to do whatever I could to serve the patient in need," said Gift of Life Marrow Registry blood stem cell donor Ari Goldstein. "I think that potential donors should look at it as an opportunity. They have been given a chance to do something important that does not require an excessive amount of sacrifice." This weekend Ari, 23, had the opportunity to meet his marrow recipient, @EstherBogin, 50, for the first time during the annual Hillel International Basketball Tournament held at the University of Maryland. Coincidentally, Ari joined the marrow registry at the 2015 tournament! Thank you Ari for giving the Gift of Life! DYK...approximately 4 billion trees every year are cut down to be used in the making of paper forms according to Ecology.com. The U.S. alone accounts for 30% of the world's paper usage annually. Individuals who have joined the Gift of Life Marrow Registry via a mobile device, including our new SwabApp, are assisting in decreasing the number of trees that get cut down ever year for the manufacturing and production of paper. This is something that can have a major impact on the world that we live in. Not in the marrow registry? Let's make a difference in many ways this Earth Day! Join here: giftoflifelorg/register Simple, everyday actions can make our planet greener for everyone! #EarthDay

#NationalVolunteerWeek - Today's Volunteer is...Quint Finney! "As a student interested in healthcare, I began to search for ways in which I could make a difference for Latino health issues," said High School Senior Swab volunteer Quint Finney. "I soon discovered Gift of Life Marrow Registry and their mission to increase Latino representation within the bone marrow registry. I thought this was a great opportunity for me to finally give back to my community and since then have run drives in order to make an impact on the survival rate for those suffering blood cancer illness." Thank you Quint for getting involved with us while in high school and helping us to diversify the marrow registry! #youcure #NVW #ivolunteer

#NationalVolunteerWeek - Today's Volunteer is...Amy Glick! "I am here today appreciating every moment because of a bone marrow transplant I received 4 years ago," said Amy. "My mission now is to help others any way I can, to get their second chance too. It is so exciting volunteering at Gift of Life Marrow Registry - the constant drives, the amount of swab kits that come in, the matches that have been made...so many lives saved! And it is a pleasure to work with such a special group of people - so caring, enthusiastic and committed. Gift of Life has been a gift for me!" We truly appreciate all your hard work Amy and love seeing your face every week in the office. It's a joy to have you helping us out! #NVW #ivolunteer

#NationalVolunteerWeek - Today's Volunteer is...Sarah Goldrich! "I started volunteering with Gift of Life Marrow Registry after my mother was diagnosed with cancer for the second time," said volunteer Sarah Goldrich. "During this process a good friend gave me a piece of advice-- 'sometimes helping someone else can help us reconnect to the good in this world and ease our own struggles and pain'. Unfortunately my mother’s cancer couldn't be cured by a bone marrow or stem cell transplant, but knowing there were people who could be easily cured with the help of a simple swab blew my mind. I decided to help spread the message that we can make a difference. Although my dream is to one day be a marrow donor myself, for now I'm willing to settle on finding other people who can be donors and save lives : )" Thank you Sarah for getting the word out on the importance of joining the marrow registry! #NVW #ivolunteer

#NationalVolunteerWeek - Today's Volunteer is...Jason Schifrien! "Gift of Life is a truly amazing organization with a very important mission," said volunteer and NYC Young Professional Co-Chair Jason Schifrien. I take great pride in supporting Gift of Life Marrow Registry in my various roles with the organization." Thank you Jason for all you do to advance our mission! #NVW #ivolunteer

#NationalVolunteerWeek - Today's Featured Volunteer - Zoe Glassenberg, LA Young Professionals Committee Co-Chair "I volunteer for Gift of Life because with every drive and every swab someone is receiving a second chance at life," said Zoë Glassenberg. "Being able to volunteer for an organization that makes every recipient and donor feel li ke they are a part of the Gift of Life family is truly an honor." We appreciate your support and dedication to our mission Zoe! #NVW #ivolunteer

#NationalVolunteerWeek Today's Volunteer is...Jared Stein! "Gift of Life has become a part of my family," said marrow donor and volunteer Jared Stein. "I have seen first-hand the impact of the organization since having the life-changing opportunity to donate stem cells. I learned throughout my donation how easy it is to save a life, and have loved being a part of the mission of the Gift of Life Marrow Registry to educate, recruit and facilitate these life-saving transplants. I look forward to being a part of this special community and family for a long time!" Thank you Jared for all you have done and do! #NVW #ivolunteer
