*For 10-year-olds and up "My intention here isn’t to argue that games have learning value. Educators don’t need convincing of this. Rather, what these three ostensibly ‘non-educational’ games show us is that there are many more options out there than we realize; we just need to shift our perspectives on what learning looks like. Our students already have, we just need to catch up."

“They are learning not to give up when faced with new challenges. They are learning that even things that are difficult at first get easier with repetition. This is what leads to academic success. Just imagine how well your children will do, we tell parents, knowing that on the first day of kindergarten they have the necessary skills to put on their very own rain boots.”

“If I had to make a general rule for living and working with children, it might be this: be wary of saying or doing anything to a child that you would not do to another adult, whose good opinion and affection you valued.” - John Holt (educator) Respect for the Individual (Sunflower pillar) ‪#RememberPlay‬ ✭ ‪#SharedWisdom‬ Join The Sunflower Circle: SunflowerCreativeArts.org/Circle

“For my 4-year-old daughter, the reason there’s no school on a given day doesn’t usually register. But last week, she remarked on how there was no school Monday because of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This was a chance to talk about the civil rights leader and U.S. history, so I asked friends on Facebook for books or other resources. There were lots of ideas, so I compiled them to share.”

Give wings to imagination "Show the children every winged thing. The bees, dragonflies, queen ants, bluebirds and swallowtails. Creatures that inspire them to defy gravity."
