Unsure about which station is right for you? Please see your owner’s manual for more information, but in general, any electrified vehicle will be able to use Level 2 charging stations. A good rule of thumb is that, depending on the power of each Level 2 charger, you should be able to charge up at a rate of about 18-30 miles per hour. Most PHEVs (plug-in hybrid electric vehicles) have a pure EV range of about that much, so you should be able to charge your EV battery well within the allocated two hours.

Level 3 charging is reserved for vehicles that are DC Fast Chargers (DCFCs). DCFCs have enormous power output and are designed to replenish a pure EV battery in about 30 minutes. For some perspective, a DCFC is rated to charge up to 100 miles of range in as little as 15 minutes. Be sure that your vehicle is DCFC capable before using a Level 3 charger.
