July was a GROUNDBREAKING Month for Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County

The Organization Broke Ground On Homes for 3 New Families In July

With 3 groundbreakings in the month of July, Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County and the Boynton Beach and Delray Beach communities came together to make homeownership a reality for three local families. Made possible by generous support from Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company, Boca West Country Club, Capitol Lighting, Knight Group, DMR Construction Services, and 206 Delray Beach LLC. in partnership with the Cities of Boynton Beach, Delray Beach and the Delray Beach CRA.

A Pharmacy Technician, Healthcare Facility Supervisor, and Publix Cake Decorator are among the families on the path to build better lives for themselves and their children. The soon-to-be homeowners are committed to completing Habitat homeowner program requirements which include:

  • 300 sweat-equity hours per adult applicant
  • Learning about budgeting, saving money, and planning for college
  • Completion of home maintenance workshops
  • Funding their escrow
  • Repaying a 30-year interest-free affordable mortgage

Meet Our New South Palm Beach County Homeowners

Geneus Family: Home Sponsor – Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company
Rose Geneus works as a supervisor at a healthcare facility. She is a mom to an eight-year-old daughter who loves to play soccer and dance ballet. Rose was born in Haiti and moved to the United States with her parents and five siblings when she was 11 years old. Rose grew up in Key West and relocated to Palm Beach County in 2014

My passion is helping people and I think that is why I chose to be in the medical field. Ive always wanted to be a homeowner because I wanted to give my daughter a place to call home, especially because growing up my family and I were always moving.”

Baker Family: Home Sponsors – Capitol Lighting, DMR Construction Services, Knight Group and 206 Delray Beach LLC

Roshel Baker works as a pharmacy technician at two local pharmacies, Costco and CVS. She was born and raised in Delray Beach, Florida. She is a single mom with 3 adult kids; the youngest is 18 and just started college.

The groundbreaking for Roshel’s future home marks the start of a brighter future. Roshel will be able to lay down roots and build a strong foundation in the very place she was born and raised; and with the stability and affordability that a Habitat home brings, she will no longer have to work two jobs to pay for housing:

A Habitat home will allow me to have a do-over and regain all those lost times with my children. My grandson will be able to grow up in completely different circumstances and have better opportunities in life. That is all I want, and I cannot wait to become a homeowner”.

The Baker family is also Habitat’s CEO Build Partner Family on October 13 & 14, an annual fundraising event that unites the power of C-Suite Executives and Corporate Leaders to build homes, communities and hope.

Jackson Family: Home Sponsor – Boca West County Club, DMR Construction Services, Knight Group and 206 Delray Beach LLC
De’Vonta Jackson and Myshayla Wilfork are a young married couple with four children. They are excited to become first-time homeowners.

The couple is grateful for the opportunity to provide stability and better opportunities for their children ages 11, 6, 4 and 10 months. Myshayla works as a cake decorator at Publix.

A Habitat home will help us save money, live sustainably and become debt-free. We will finally have something we can call our own, and a safe place where our children can grow and play.”
