We Are Delray: And We LOVE to Laugh!

Most important thing for our wellbeing –  is LAUGHTER! The famous comedian Milton Berle said, “Laughter is an instant vacation”. This issue let’s look at some “instant vacations” right here in Delray.

Our Delray Playhouse has been entertaining our town for more than 75 years. Started in a church hall, the first actual playhouse was opened in 1957. Today local actors, singers, and comedians, plus outside traveling troupes take to the stage for some great productions and entertain guests all throughout the year.  Need some laughter and the feel of “old Delray”? Take in a show this season!

Our Arts Garage “Connects the Community the to World Through the Arts”. Many Delray residents have grabbed a seat for top-notch music and drama, but you can take in a comedy show as well and laugh your way home. Great music, drama and lectures also grace their stage.

Ever heard of The Doghouse Theater? It is home to our local Sick Puppies Comedy group, located on NW 5^th Avenue in Delray Beach. The theater provides great improv and stand-up comedy to experience, OR how about taking a class to make others laugh? You can enroll in a variety of classes for an “instant vacation”.

Want to enjoy a drag show? Several of our local venues feature hilarious performers. Try Throw Social, Tin Roof or the Arts Garage for local shows. Enjoy drinks, food, and LAUGHTER!

Lastly, don’t overlook our local schools. Both Atlantic Community High School and Plumosa School of the Arts publish their theater schedules. Seats are available to the public for annual shows from our great Delray students. Take advantage of it and help support our next generation.

So, remember this month, along with all the February attention to love, take some time to LAUGH! It will be an instant vacation without leaving this town we call home.
