Why “Marketing” Isn’t Your Problem
by Shaun Hall, Owner of Tropical Clicks
Most business owners I talk to don’t think they have a marketing problem.
They think they need more leads, better social media, a website refresh or ads that actually work.
But after sitting on both sides of the table for years, running campaigns, managing budgets, creating content and watching what really moves the needle, I can tell you this with confidence:
Marketing isn’t the real problem.
The real problem is most businesses are operating with disconnected systems, unclear messaging and absolutely no visibility into what’s quietly bleeding money.
Now, that’s not a knock. It’s incredibly common. But who am I to say?
Some of you only know me as Chairman of our board of directors here at the Delray Chamber and aren’t clear as to what I do professionally. I’ll admit, it can be very ambiguous on the surface. Some of you know that I do some kind of marketing, but don’t understand to what end I do it. Allow me to clear all of this up.
I’ve been in online marketing and advertising since 2012. I’ve been involved with affiliate marketing at a very high level most of that time, winning a prestigious AFFY Award for excellence in online marketing back in 2019.
During that time, I’ve also owned various companies locally as I wanted to take what I was doing for large international corporations and apply that to local businesses. This has given me a front row seat to conversations with business owners across a lot of industries. I hear the same frustrations over and over again:
“I feel like we’re doing a lot, but I’m not sure it’s working.”
“We get leads, but they’re not the right ones.”
“We hired someone for social media, but nothing really changed.”
“We tried ads before, but they were costly and didn’t pan out.”
None of those are surface level issues. They are system issues.
Where Most Marketing Quietly Breaks Down
Here’s what I see far too often.
A business is running ads or posting on social media, but there’s no clear strategy behind it. No defined funnel. No Automation. No Follow up process that works while you’re busy running the business.
Leads come in, but they aren’t being nurtured properly. Or worse, they sit untouched because no one owns the process.
Money is being spent, but reporting is vague. You might know how much you spent, but not what actually drove the revenue.
And because of that, marketing feels like an expense instead of an investment.
That’s not a creativity problem. It’s an infrastructure problem.
Why I Built Tropical Clicks
Tropical Clicks exists because I got tired of watching good businesses struggle with bad systems. I also got frustrated by offering social media marketing and paid ad services to businesses who didn’t have the proper structure to allow my efforts to thrive.
My background is not just “Social Media Marketing.” It’s performance marketing, automation, paid ads, attribution and strategy across multiple industries where mistakes are expensive and results matter.
I’ve built and scaled campaigns where every dollar had to be justified. I’ve worked with teams that live and die by data. I’ve helped businesses fix leaks they didn’t even know existed. In most cases while doing social media marketing for clients, I found myself fixing their internal systems and structure in order to be able to my job properly.
What makes Tropical Clicks different is simple:
We don’t just generate attention. We build systems that convert it.
That means:
Clear messaging that attracts the right customers, not just more clicks.
Automation that follows up instantly and consistently.
Paid and organic strategies that work together instead of in silos.
Real reporting that shows what’s actually driving revenue.
Most importantly, everything is built around how your business actually operates, not a generic marketing playbook.
This Is For You If Any of This Sounds Familiar
You feel like you should be further along than you are.
You’re busy, but growth feels inconsistent.
You know marketing matters, but you don’t have time to manage it properly.
You want clarity, not buzzwords or vanity metrics.
If that’s you, you’re not behind. You’re just missing the right structure.
A Personal Note
I wear a few hats in this community, and I don’t take that lightly. My role here at the Chamber is about service, leadership, and long-term impact. Tropical Clicks is how I help businesses directly solve problems that cost them time, money, and momentum.
I’m not interested in being the loudest marketer in the room. I’m interested in being the most effective partner you’ve worked with.
The Next Step
If you’ve read this and thought, “This sounds uncomfortably accurate,” that’s probably not an accident.
I’m opening up a limited number of strategy sessions for local businesses and business owners who want to get clear on what’s actually holding them back and what to fix first. It could be with marketing, it could be with proper systems or it could be both.
No pressure. No pitch deck. Just a real conversation about your business and whether I’m the right person to help.
If you want clarity, momentum and a system that finally works the way it should, reach out. Let’s fix what’s actually broken.
